The Renegades — Projects
I’ve been writing Captain Jack & The Original Renegades for years, but the work has grown into something larger: a living archive of stories, poems, chapbooks, zines, and maps. These aren’t just tales on a page — they’re survival, resistance, and memory, carried forward in mythic form.
#RenegadeZine
The fire begins here. Stories carried in the hand, stitched in spiral, rising in smoke. I wanted to begin not with just words, but with something you can hold. These are the first handmade zines of The Renegades project. Each one carries a story, a spiral, a myth rising from the Basin.

Renegade Shorts
Renegade Shorts are stand-alone stories drawn from the fires of history and myth — brief but searing works that carry the same pulse as The Renegades project. Each piece distills survival, resistance, and memory into a single strike of prose. From The Ballad of Chetco Jennie — longlisted in the 2025 History Through Fiction contest — to other fragments of rebellion, these shorts are small in size but heavy with flame.

Captain Jack & The Original Renegades
In the wake of a forgotten genocide, a modern father and son return to sacred Modoc land — where spirals carved in stone and soaked in silence echo a story of betrayal, survival, and the sacred burden of remembering the New American Gospel.

Myths & Poems
Myths & Poems carry the older voices — fragments of story, prophecy, and song reimagined for the present. These works move between verse and vision, drawing from the Basin’s creation stories, medicine wheel cycles, and the shadows of spirits like Amhuluk and Shining Shirt. Each poem is both incantation and remembrance, a way of keeping the fire alive in language.
